Hey, I'm having an interesting problem with Homeworld 2. I played it fine, initially, at a resolution of 800x600. I figure it was running at about 20-30 fps. I had not yet touched the default resolution settings. Following that, I upped the resolution to 1280x960. From then on, the game has decided that it will not run at above 10 fps, no matter what resolution I use. It's really quite frustrating.
I start the game, and it runs at something like 200 fps in the main menu. I load it, and it immediately centers in around 10 fps, until it hits it. Then it never changes from 10 (except to occasionally drop 1 or 2 frames every now and then) no matter if it's on 1280x960 or 800x600. I'm not sure what happened, but it's like some sort of fps limiter just jumped in and overrode whatever normally happens.
DOes anyone know if either the game, the sysmte (WinXP Pro) or ATI's drivers/Rage3d has an fps limiter that's keeping me from enjoying this game, or if some setting like VSync or AA would cause that sort of behavior? I'd really like to get back to enjoying the game, if you know what I mean.
Thanks.

Go to the directory where you installed Homeworld 2 and go to the 'binrelease' folder and find the file called 'homeworld2.exe' Example: 'c:program filessierrahomeworld2binreleasehomeworld2.exe' Right-click on this file and select Create Shortcut from the drop-down menu. After you do this there should be a new icon at the end of the list called 'homeworld2.exe'. Right-click on that icon and select Cut from the menu. Now, close all the windows you opened and right-click on any open space on your desktop. Select Paste from the drop-down menu. Now, you should have an icon on your desktop that says 'Homeworld2.exe'. if set to 0 it turns off sync check completely. had a game with a buddy today with -syncCheckingLevel 0, and we got totaly desynced.

Post subject: Homeworld 2 - Resolution Limit to 4:3 ratio Homeworld 2 uses screen aspect ratio of 4:3
I think majority hard core gamers in here knows that we can forced the game to start at pre-defined resolution for as long it maintains the 4:3 ratio. Just type say; “-h 1024 –w 768…” at the game’s exe. shortcut, it will start in 1024 x 768 resolutions.
Unfortunately this is only true for those who have Computer Monitors which is using 4:3 ratio all the way. Most new LCD Monitors or HD Monitors especially with the Wide Screen ability do not necessarily comply with the 4:3 ratio.
But what happens if some users are using Wide Screen Monitors (which is very common nowadays)? Say your best resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels, but because of the 4:3 ruling, you can only go highest 1024 x 768. The game is still playable, but most Wide Screen owners will notice a black strip located at both side of the screen non-utilized. This is wastage. Especially when your computer can handle bigger resolution but not in the 4:3 format. Unless, someone in here already found a fix for this problem, please share your thoughts! Thanks!
PS: I hope future developer will make Homeworld 3 could handle bigger resolution and do not limit it to the aspect ratio 4:3. for maximum pleasure ~ Sagyxil - Thu Jul 28, 2011 3:40 pm
Post subject: I run tests using 1024 x 720 (4:3); and play the game at 1280x800 (16:10).
Some people here play the game at 1600x1000.
I have run some tests about this in the past, and found that I can get some rather oddball resolutions to work. like 1024x600 and 800x720; granted they were rather stretched out, but they still worked. lmsmi1 - Thu Jul 28, 2011 6:40 pm

Is there a command line to load a Player Profile?
In the hw2.log it is listed, whenever there's a crash.
Maybe it could be done.
I asked/suggested SilentSpy to search for this issue (and include in his MOD launcher, if viable).

Today I was feeling nostalgic and decided to replay the classic original Homeworld game, which was released in 1999. I remember the graphics, story and music with such fondness, I thought I would see if it runs on Windows 8.1 x64 with an Intel HD 3000 onboard graphics card. It is still great, this is how I got it running:
- Download Homeworld from http://coreduo.me.uk/homeworld-1999/ (abandonware)
- Extract using 7zip, and then extract the .img file using WinImage (I was unable to mount this directly)
- Install the game, which takes about 30 seconds on an SSD
- Install the patch included in the download
- Find a no-CD for the game, assuming that you do not have the CD
Now, on running this game, and enabling OpenGL mode, I had several issues:
- There was severe screen flickering when using OpenGL
- Resolution was not widescreen
- Blackscreen on startup
These issues were resolved as follows:
Screen Flickering
- Add /triple to the shortcut to start the game. If this keeps happening, try removing /triple again.
Resolution fix
- Edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSierra On-LineHomeworld
- Check screenHeight and screenWidth to match your resolution
Blackscreen
- Set compatibility mode to Windows 95 or 98
Note that d3d mode can be used, but I found that this has bad mouse lag in the Build menu. I found some other tweaks online and eventually used the following shortcut:
C:SierraHomeworldhomeworld.exe /triple /heap 1073741824 /enableSSE /disableAVI /pilotView
Note that the pilot view switch gives lets you ride on the back of a ship by pressing q.
I had a lot of issues switching between display modes. The easiest way to do this is via the registry. Just switch these 2 registry keys around, for OpenGL:
Popcorn hour a-500 vs vten oil. For Direct3d:
However, d3d takes some time to show the menu, and then has lag in the build menu which makes it unusable for me. OpenGL has no issues other than some initial flickering when first loading. It is basically a question of messing around with the registry and shortcut until you find the optimal config. I would also suggest, if you run into issues, delete the entire key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSierra On-LineHomeworld and run it again. It will go back to defaults, switch to OpenGL, and then set the resolution again in the recreated key.

Homeworld2.exe Command-Line ParametersInstructions(from the HW2 Modding FAQ)
Go to the directory where you installed Homeworld 2 and go to the 'binrelease' folder and find the file called 'homeworld2.exe'
Example:
'c:program filessierrahomeworld2binreleasehomeworld2.exe'
Right-click on this file and select Create Shortcut from the drop-down menu.
After you do this there should be a new icon at the end of the list called 'homeworld2.exe'. Right-click on that icon and select Cut from the menu.
Now, close all the windows you opened and right-click on any open space on your desktop. Select Paste
![Homeworld 2 wiki Homeworld 2 wiki](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123714556/165239512.jpg)

'c:program filessierrahomeworld2binreleasehomeworld2.exe'
At the end of this line add a space and then '-overrideBigFile' (without quotes). So, in the end your target line will look like this:
